What the Data Won't Show You
When 6.1 million people are statistically invisible, the system cannot serve them. We built the disaggregation tool because no one else would.
Every major U.S. mental-health dataset aggregates Asian-Americans into a single category — collapsing East Asian, Southeast Asian, and South Asian respondents into one number. The result: clinicians and researchers cannot see how South Asian Americans actually experience depression, anxiety, suicidality, or help-seeking.
MHISA's machine-learning disaggregation model identifies South Asian respondents in existing public datasets with 94% accuracy. We then re-analyzed national surveys. The findings are now driving conversations at academic departments, public-health agencies, and inside community clinics.
Data is not neutral. Categorization is a policy choice. We're choosing differently.
